The family story
The Jagiellonian story begins in Poland with Jogaila — Władysław II Jagiełło — and his marriage to Jadwiga, an Angevin sovereign. The marriage is the bridge between two dynastic pages; Jadwiga remains Angevin by birth rather than being relabelled as Jagiellonian.
Successive Jagiellonian rulers linked Kraków and Vilnius across a shared political world. The dynasty’s male line ended in 1572 with Sigismund II Augustus, helping open the Commonwealth’s fully elective era.
One name, several lines
Treat this as one dynastic story linking the Polish crown and Lithuanian origins rather than splitting it into national boxes.
